Children’s Rights
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation for children and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the child.
At All Saints Nursery, we put the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of everything we do. It is embedded in the nursery’s ethos, aims, values and curriculum. It is evident in the relationships and language of rights and respect between all members of our school’s community.
A rights-respecting nursery is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
There are 42 articles and these are some of the ones that we focus on at All Saints:
Every child has the right to play (Article 31)
Every child has the right to be protected from harm (Article 19)
Every child has the right to an education (Article 28)
Every child has the right to be listened to (Article 14)
Every child has the right to have a say (Article 12)
Every child has the right to be part of a group or a club (Article 15)
Every child has the right to clean water, healthy food and a clean environment
(Article 24)
